So far, the study’s findings found obedience and academic problems among those who received low-quality care during their first 4½ years of life and persisted through their 15th birthday. The quality care profile included: The caregivers’ warmth, sensitivity, emotional support and the amount of cognitive stimulation they provided. Children receiving higher-quality care displayed fewer behavioral problems than children receiving lower-quality care. The type of care, whether inside or outside the home did not seem to matter.

What a pleasure it would be to learn in their classrooms. They joyfully reinforced the child’s attempts at independence while allowing her to move at her own pace. When they saw that she was comfortable they encouraged her to move another step forward. Their delicate encouragement was as quiet and soft as the gentle gulf waters. There were no bells and whistles; no showering the child with accolades, just a circle of women welcoming this child forward.
